The City of Mansfield was recently awarded a $957,409 grant from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program.

Funds from the grant were applied for and approved to help mitigate storm water concerns throughout the City during heavy rain events.

Public Works Director Allen Pritchard said the grant was applied for through the help of the South Central Ozark Council of Governments (SCOCOG).

An engineering firm, Great River Engineering, has been hired to oversee the project. The next step involved putting some items out for a bid.

The grant money will specifically help the City to redo some tinhorns, culvert work and other flooding/drainage issues around town.

The total received was the exact amount the City had applied for.

“We were very excited about the state giving us that kind of money,” Pritchard said.

He noted that the City has also applied for two other grants.

One involved a sewer ‘I and I’ study to help in avoiding some of the storm water into the sewer pipes. A second grant is for dollars to help repave some streets within the city limits of Mansfield.
