Mary Ellen (Vanover) Allmon

Mary Ellen (Vanover) Allmon, was born Jan. 20, 1942, on Midco Hill in Fremont, to Hugh Dennis Vanover and Zelma (Greene) Vanover, the youngest of six children. She passed away Dec. 10, 2024, in Springfield, at the age of 82. Mary grew up and attended school in Fremont until 1955 when her family moved to Mountain View. She graduated from Mountain View High School in May of 1959. Mary met the love of her life, Dwain Allmon, in Mountain View in 1958. They were married on May 30, 1959. Shortly after marriage, Dwain and Mary moved to Iowa where Dwain worked at Sutherland Lumber Company. In 1961, they moved to Kansas City. Three children were born to this union, Donald Eugene in 1961, Chester Alan in 1962 and Sandra Jean in 1969. Mary was a stay-at-home mom and enjoyed keeping a clean home, cooking, making a garden and growing flowers. She always loved spending time with her husband and family. Later in life, she started fishing, which she enjoyed very much. She also liked music and books. In October 1958, Mary began serving the Lord. She and Dwain were faithful for all of their lives. They pastored six churches in their lifetime.
Mary was preceded in death by her father, Hugh Vanover, in 1943, and her mother, Zelma Vanover, in 2003; three brothers, Willard Dwight in 1934, Delbert Eugene in 1988, Wilfred Wright in 2003; and her daughter, Sandra Jean, in 2021. She is survived by her husband, Dwain, of Springfield; one sister, Phyllis Vermillion, of Mountain View; one brother, Hugh Dennis Vanover, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two children, Donald Eugene Allmon and his wife, Pam, of West Plains, and Chester Alan Allmon, of Fort Worth, Texas; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her dearly. Services for Mary Allmon were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 16, 2024, at the Cabool Assembly of God with Pastor Doyle Coffman and Pastor Ron Morein officiating. Special songs were “Lead Me Home” and “Reunion In Heaven.” Donald Allmon, Alan Allmon, Jon Allmon, Nathan Allmon, Danny Bender and Mark Julia served as pallbearers.
