Mackie Doyal Wood, Sr.
Mackie Doyal Wood, Sr., 79, of Versailles, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025, at his home. He was born May 4, 1945, in Mountain Grove, a son of the late Oscar and Verna Wood. On Nov. 22, 1962, in Camdenton, he was united in marriage to his surviving wife, Janie (Rogers) Wood. Mackie was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He served his country from 1963-1967, in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, where he proudly served aboard the USS Kitty Hawk. Throughout his life, Mackie was a hardworking truck driver, dedicating many years to his profession. He also enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and playing golf. He was a proud member of the Rolling Hills Country Club in Versailles.
In addition to his wife, Janie, Mackie is survived by his sons, William “Sonny” Wood and Mackie Wood, Jr. and wife Chelsey, all of Versaillesi; his grandchildren, Ronald Wood, Michael Drake, Racheal Snelling, Ruby Hanley, Mackie Wood, III and McKenzie Wood; 13 great-grandchildren; his brother, Connie Wood, of Mountain Grove, and many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Snelling; his brothers, John Wood and Tom Wood; his sisters, Ruth Crisp, Laura Clark and Welda LeBrant; and grandsons, Stephen Snelling and Mason Wood. A celebration of Mackie’s life with full military honors will be held at a later date at Green Mountain Cemetery in Mountain Grove.
