Jeffrey Scot McGregor

Jeffrey Scot McGregor, son of the late James Reed and Doris Jean (Hudson) McGregor, was born on Dec. 25, 1954, in Sedalia. He passed away on May 16, 2025, at his home in Mountain Grove, at the age of 70. Jeff grew up and attended school in Sedalia. He graduated from Smith Cotton High School and received his AA degree from State Fair College in Sedalia. He was united in marriage to Mary Ann (Gregory) McGregor on August 23, 1980, in Pettis County. They raised five children, Michael, Leanne, Rebeccah, Robert and Grace. They raised their family in Mountain Grove, where Jeff managed the Mountain Grove Building Supply for many years. He also managed the Mansfield Building Supply and Ace Hardware for several years. He retired from working outside the home at the end of 2010. Jeff and Mary Ann operated a family business from their home since 2005. He was always busy with one project after another. Jeff and Mary Ann purchased their home on Wall Road, after a tornado had gone through that area a few months prior. He would go after work at the lumber yard, and work on the house until 3 or 4 a.m., for over three months, until it was ready to move into. They continued to live at that same residence since 1983. Jeff enjoyed so many activities. He was an avid golfer, before he got too busy with farm work - raising cows, pigs, and chickens. He was the beef barn superintendent for several years at the Tri-County Fair in Mountain Grove. Jeff loved fishing. He was so good at helping the kids with hooks and worms and teaching them how to fish. He loved deer season and hunting at the McGregor hunting grounds around Camp Zora, and also on his own property here in Wright County. Jeff learned auto mechanics from his dad, and was good at maintaining the family vehicles. He loved working with wood and building things. He loved his family. Being able to spend time with them was at the top of his list. He wanted to make sure that they were all doing well. Once you met Jeff, it would not be long, before he was telling a joke, or pulling a prank. Even when sick in the hospital - a nurse wanted his finger to check his oxygen. “May I have your finger please?” “As long as you give it back.” Sometimes his humor went right over their heads. He would joke about finding a credit card he was using, in the parking lot. He loved answering phone calls - depending on who it was, “USDA Inspector's Office.” Telling someone how good they looked, when of course he couldn't see them. Jeff loved the Lord Jesus. He led family devotions every morning at 6 a.m., during much of our home-school time. He was trying to memorize verses along with the kids. They have wonderful memories of so many people that God has connected them with during all of their married years. He had the most peaceful going home time, and his family is celebrating his new life with Jesus.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann McGregor; two sons and three daughters, plus their spouses and 13 grandchildren, Michael William and Rhiza Paanod McGregor, with children, Morgan and James; Leanne Marie Nabwiso, with children Henry, Ruthanne, Joanna and Emily; Rebeccah Jeanette McGregor; Robert “Bob” Christian and Abigail Jane McGregor, with children Hannah, Luke, Paxton, Rowen, Lilly and Evy; and Grace Adelai and Payton Dean Emery with baby River Dean Emery. Jeff is also survived by his brother, Reed Cameron McGregor; and many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. Jeff will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Services for Jeff McGregor were held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2025, in the Union Chapel No. 2 Church of Mountain Grove with Pastor Gina Gleason officiating. Gabriel Winstead, Danny Shannon, Darrell Neuroth, Lonnie Ross, Wil Hedquist and Payton Emery served as pallbearers.
