Barbara Rose (Jarrett) Barnes

Barbara Rose (Jarrett) Barnes, daughter of the late Jesse Howard and Olive Laverne (Irvin) Jarrett, was born Aug. 28, 1942, in Texas County, Missouri. She passed away on July 29, 2026, at Kabul Nursing Home in Cabool. She was 83 years, 11 months and 1 day of age. Barbara was raised in Texas County and attended school at Cherry Point and Mountain Grove Schools. She was united in marriage to Calvin Barnes on March 9, 1960, in Mountain Grove. One son, Bret, was born to this union. She worked for the Brown Shoe Factory for several years. In 1977, Barbara and Calvin, along with Robert and Bonnie Ratterree, opened Ratterree and Barnes Pump and Plumbing, and they operated it until their retirement in 2000. Barbara adored her grandchildren, who held a very special place in her heart. She loved her family and was very close to her brothers and sisters. She always looked forward to getting together with them at their big family reunions. Barbara loved fishing and enjoyed many fishing trips to Norfork Lake with Calvin. They would catch enough fish to have a big fish fry for family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening and canning what she grew.
Besides her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Calvin Barnes; four brothers, Ruben, Walter, Norman and Elza Jarrett; and three sisters, Avis Kennedy, Emma Nungesser and Grace Gott. She is survived by her son, Bret Barnes and his wife, Carol, of Mountain Grove; two grandchildren, Bridget Moss and her husband, Eric, of Mountain Grove, and Bobby Barnes, of Lebanon; seven great-grandchildren, Mia, Kaydn, Piper, Addison, Callee, Kamber and Anayah; one sister, Dorothy Harris, and her husband, Vic, of Lebanon; two sisters-in-law, Reeta Clark, of Warsaw, and Sandy Jarrett, of Mountain Grove; and many other family and friends who will miss her very much. Visitation for Barbara Barnes was held on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026, from 10-11 a.m. at the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home in Mountain Grove. Funeral services followed at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Wayne Cannon officiating. Song selections were “What A Day That Will Be” and “Amazing Grace.” Those serving as pallbearers were Bobby Barnes, Eric Moss, Larry Jarrett, Bo Parker, Duane Parker and Elza Gott. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Ratterree and Vic Harris. Burial was in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Mountain Grove under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home of Mountain Grove.
