Senior heavy Pirates open season at 3-0

It’s been a great start to the 2024-2025 basketball season for the Norwood Pirates as they have outscored their first three opponents by a 230-122 margin to start 3-0.
Their most recent win came against Plato at home on Nov. 26 as they pulled away for an 81-48 victory.
Norwood scored 22 points in the first quarter with the help of three Andrew Bradshaw 3-pointers and 11 points in the opening frame.
Noah Drake scored five points in the first quarter.
Andrew Bradshaw added another five points just before halftime to help the Pirates enter the break up by eight points.
Cooper Vaughan had a solid third quarter with six points as six different Pirates scored in the 22-point frame.
After outscoring Plato by 12 in the third, Cooper Vaughan added six more points in the fourth quarter to help seal the 33-point win.
Cooper Vaughan led the Pirates with 18 points as 10 different players scored in the win.
Andrew Bradshaw added 16 points; Peyton McDaris had 13; Carder Kelly had eight; Gary Williams scored seven points; Gunner Bradshaw had six points; Drake added five points; both Pierce Lawson and Hunner Finch had three points; while Hayden Finch scored two points.
In the season opener at home against Dora, the Pirates put 23 points up in the first quarter and added 28 more in the third in a 72-28 victory of the Falcons.
Both Cooper Vaughan and Drake scored seven points in the opening frame.
Williams and Lawson each added four points in an 18-point second quarter to help Norwood take a 41-15 lead at halftime.
McDaris made two 3-pointers and scored eight points while Kelly added a pair of 3-pointers to pace the Pirates to 28 points in the third.
With the mercy clock in effect, Norwood would go on to win the game by 44 points.
Ten different players scored in the win as Drake led the way with 15 points. McDaris scored 14; Cooper Vaughan had 11; both Williams and Kelly scored eight points; Gunner Bradshaw had seven points; Lawson scored four points; Laken Coatney and Andrew Bradshaw had two points; and Hayden Finch scored one point.
In between the two victories at home, the Pirates traveled to Highland, Ark. to take on Corning in the Highland Classic.
They crossed back over the state line with a 77-46 victory.
It was a sluggish start as the Pirates found their footing with just 13 points in the first quarter as Cooper Vaughan made two 3-pointers and scored eight points.
Corning, Ark. charged back with a 17-point second frame to cut Norwood’s lead to just two points at halftime.
In the third quarter, both Cooper Vaughan and Drake scored eight points in a 29-point frame to go up 17.
Remington Hill sealed the win with eight points in the fourth quarter as Norwood won by 21 points.
Cooper Vaughan finished with 18 points; both McDaris and Drake scored 12 points; Hill had eight points; Gunner Bradshaw scored seven points; Lawson added six; Kelly had five points; Williams scored four; Andrew Bradshaw had three points; while Hayden Finch scored two points.
