Pirates beat No. 6 ranked Harrisburg

The Norwood Pirates’ basketball team, the No. 3 team in Class 2, traveled to mid-Missouri last week to take on Harrisburg, the No. 6 team in the same class size.
The result, the Pirates picked up a big, 62-56 victory.
It was a tight, 20-19, game early as Carder Kelly came up big with a pair of 3-pointers and eight total points.
Gunner Bradshaw provided all of the offense in a low scoring second quarter with all eight points as the Pirates trailed by one at halftime.
Harrisburg would push the lead to four by the end of the third quarter in spite of Cooper Vaughan’s eight points.
Norwood completed their rally in the fourth quarter with a 21-point frame. Peyton McDaris scored seven points and Cooper Vaughan added another five points.
Gunner Bradshaw dominated in the post with a team-high 18 points; Cooper Vaughan added 16; Kelly had 11; McDaris scored eight points; Noah Drake had seven points; and Pierce Lawson had two points.
As for the Summit Conference title chase, things are still being discussed after a winter storm forced the cancellation of the Pirates’ game with Mansfield.
In the meantime, Norwood is the No. 1 seed in this week’s Class 2, District 10 with games being played at Mansfield High School.
A possible district finals would be at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28.
