Pirates’ baseball starts 4-0
The Norwood Pirates’ baseball team remained undefeated at 4-0 on the season last week after picking up three big wins at home.
They opened the week with an 8-1 victory over Wilow Springs.
Laken Coatney tossed five scoreless innings and gave up two hits with nine strikeouts and three walks. Holten Lopez tossed two innings of scoreless work and gave up three hits with three strikeouts.
Pierce Lawson, Pete McCune and Lopez each had two RBIs; Coatney had one RBI; while both Gary Williams and Noah Drake scored twice.
Three days later, the Pirates held on late to defeat Winona, 6-3.
Carson Vaughan had a big day with three hits, one RBI and two runs scored; Cooper Vaughan, Drake and Williams each had one RBI; while Caden Black had one RBI and one run scored.
Norwood ended the week with a 16-1 thrashing of Cabool. Coatney had a monster game with six RBIs and one run scored; Cooper Vaughan and Williams each had two RBIs and two runs scored; McCune had one RBI and scored three times; Carson Vaughan scored twice; Black had two RBIs and one run scored; while Lawson had one RBI and scored three times. Cooper Vaughan tossed four innings and gave up one earned run on three hits with seven strikeouts and one walk.
