Norwood softball outscores three teams, 30-9
The Norwood Lady Pirates’ softball team put together a three-game winning streak after outscoring three opponents, 30-9, last week.
They opened with a 14-4 home victory over Van Buren as they scored seven runs in the first inning and added five more in the third.
The win avenged an earlier extra-inning loss to the Lady Bulldogs on the road.
Jayden Chambers hit an inside-the-park grand slam before finishing the game with three hits, five RBIs and two runs scored.
Gentry Davault tallied two RBIs and scored three runs; Addison Smith had two RBIs and one run scored; Lydia Harden, Jamison Williams and Jaycee Hall had one RBI and one run scored; while Addy Gray scored three times.
On the mound, Maddie Campbell tossed six innings and allowed one earned run on three hits with 10 strikeouts.
Last Friday, the Lady Pirates first knocked off East Carter, 9-3, as the Lady Pirates’ offense had three triples in the victory.
Smith tallied three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored; both Hall and Campbell had one RBI and one run scored; both Gray and Chambers scored twice; while Davault and Harden each had one RBI.
Campbell tossed five innings and allowed three earned runs on five hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.
Also on Friday, the Lady Pirates defeated a 13-win team from Dadeville with Everton, 7-2.
Campbell led the offense with two RBIs and three runs scored; both Smith and Hall had two RBIs; Chambers had one RBI and scored twice; while both Mayci Calhoun and Gray scored one run.
Campbell also tossed four and two-thirds innings and gave up two earned runs on five hits with six strikeouts and two walks.
Norwood is hosting this week’s Class 1, District 1 Tournament, where the Lady Pirates are the No. 2 seed.
They will take on the winner of Neelyville and Newburg at 4 p.m. on Oct. 16.
A win gives them a semifinals match-up with either Marion C. Early or Crocker at 6 p.m. on Oct. 17.
The championship game will be played at 6 p.m. on Oct. 20.
Other teams include Halfway, Stoutland, Van Buren, Richland and Naylor.
Norwood enters the postseason with a 12-11 overall record.
