Norwood softball gets two big wins

The Norwood Lady Pirates’ softball team picked up a pair of big wins against teams from the Class 1, District 1 Tournament they will be hosting next week.
On Sep. 30, the Lady Pirates defeated Stoutland, 8-2.
Pitcher Maddie Campbell tossed seven scoreless innings and gave up five hits with nine strikeouts and one walk.
Offensively, Addison Smith had three RBIs; Campbell added one RBI and two runs scored; Jayden Chambers scored three times; Gentry Davault had one RBI; and Addy Gray scored twice.
One day later, Norwood hosted Marion C. Early and picked up a 6-0 victory as Campbell tossed a five-hit shutout.
She also had nine strikeouts and issued one walk for the Lady Pirates.
Chambers led Norwood’s offense with a triple, three hits, one RBI and three runs scored. Gray had one RBI and one run scored, and Davault scored twice.
Norwood ended their week with a 6-4 loss to Twin Rivers in spite of Cambpell’s 14 strikeouts. She gave up three earned runs in seven innings and had one walk.
Mayci Calhoun, Jaycee Hall and Campbell each had one RBI and one run scored in the loss for Norwood.
