Norwood Pirates pick up pair of impressive victories, now 22-2

The Norwood Pirates’ basketball team added two more impressive victories in the win column last week to push their overall record to 22-2 on the season.
One win came at home against an always tough Fair Grove program, 69-60. The Eagles actually led the Pirates, 17-16, after one quarter of play in spite of Cooper Vaughan’s two, 3-pointers for six points.
Norwood responded with a 22-11 run though in the second quarter as both Gunner Bradshaw and Cooper Vaughan scored six points.
Fair Grove did cut the lead to four after a 19-point third quarter.
The Pirates responded with an 18-point final eight minutes of play with the help of McDaris’ five points.
Cooper Vaughan scored a team-high 19 points in the win. Gunner Bradshaw and Carder Kelly each scored 11 points; McDaris added nine; Noah Drake scored eight points; Pierce Lawson had five; Gary Williams scored four points; and Andrew Bradshaw had two points.
They ended the week by putting themselves just one win away from clinching a Summit Conference title as they traveled to Sparta and left with a 62-32 win over the Trojans.
Drake’s five points helped Norwood take a 12-9 lead early against Sparta.
McDaris then sparked the offense in the second quarter by scoring nine of his team’s 16 points to put Norwood up 28-15 at halftime.
Drake scored seven points and Cooper Vaughan had six points in a 15-point third quarter to push the lead to 18.
Kelly hit a pair of late 3-pointers to help seal the 30-point win.
Drake scored a team-high 17 points; Cooper Vaughan and McDaris both had 12 points; Kelly had 11; Laken Coatney scored four points; Williams had three points; Andrew Bradshaw scored two points; and Gunner Bradshaw had one point.
