Norwood Lady Pirates closing in on Summit Conference title

The Norwood Lady Pirates’ basketball team is now just two wins away from winning the Summit Conference title after they picked up wins over Sparta and Conway.
On the road against a scrappy Lady Trojans’ team, Norwood had two 20-point quarters in a 63-43 victory. They opened the game with a 20-point first quarter after Autumn Gunter hit two, 3-pointers and scored eight points. After their 20-3 run, Quinncy Vestal scored five of her team’s 13 points before halftime to give the Lady Pirates a 19-point halftime edge.
Gunter made a pair of 3-pointers in a 20-point third quarter while Kalie Chadwell had five points to help the Lady Pirates pull away for good.
Gunter made four, 3-pointers and scored a team-high 18 points; Chadwell added 15; Vestal added nine points; Gentry Davault scored seven; both Jayden Chambers and Addy Gray scored four points; and both Kendall Drake and Jaycee Hall added three points.
Norwood also traveled to Conway last week and dominated the Lady Bears for a 58-21 win.
The Lady Pirates’ defense held Conway to nine points or less in all four quarters.
Both Gunter and Chambers scored four points in a sluggish 12-point first quarter before Norwood’s offense exploded for 43 points over the next two frames. Chambers had eight points and Chadwell scored seven in a 20-point second quarter.
Up 32-13 at halftime, the Lady Pirates pulled away with a 23-point third quarter as Chambers scored another eight points. She went on to score a team-high 20 points; Davault added 10 points; Chadwell had seven; both Gunter and Hall scored six points; Vestal had five points; and both Drake and Gray scored two points.
In a nonconference tilt, Norwood traveled to Ava and left with a 70-35 victory.
The Lady Pirates put 20 points on the board in the first quarter with the help of six points from both Chadwell and Davault.
Norwood then had an 18-7 run before halftime as Gray made a pair of 3-pointers and both Davault and Chadwell scored four more points a piece.
Gray would go on to make three, 3-pointers in the second half as the Lady Pirates finished the game making 10 shots from behind the perimeter in the 35-point win.
Gray made six, 3-pointers for a team-high 18 points; Chadwell made three, 3-pointers and had 16 points; Davault added 15; Chambers scored nine; Gunter had four points; both Vestal and Drake had three points; and Hall scored two points.
