Trump wins by a landslide, Amendment 3 passes
Several election races were officially decided on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 5 as results came in for national, statewide and local races.
Former President Donald Trump would eventually earn 312 votes in the Electoral College and was elected the 47th President of the United States.
Some reports show Trump’s 87% support in Wright County, earning 7,843 of the 8,970 total votes cast as the largest support of any county in the state. At the state level, Trump’s 1.739 million votes were better than the 1.190 million cast for Kamala Harris. Harris finished with just 226 Electoral College votes, way short of the needed 270.
Incumbent U.S. Senator Josh Hawley held off Lucas Kunce, winning his race, 1.639 million votes to 1.234 million votes.
Republicans went on to sweep all of the key state races, setting up Missouri’s next administration.
Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe will be the 58th Governor after beating Rep. Crystal Quade (D), 1.738 million votes to 1.137 million votes.
David Wasinger (R) won the Lt. Gov. race, defeating State Rep. Richard Brown (D), 1.659 million votes to 1.113 million votes.
State Sen. Denny Hoskins is the new Secretary of State as he beat State Rep. Barbara Phifer (D), 1.665 million votes to 1.145 million votes.
Incumbent Vivek Malek won the State Treasurer race over Mark Osmack (D), 1.672 million votes to 1.097 million.
Incumbent Andrew Bailey defeated Elad Gross, 1.727 million votes to 1.095 million votes, to win the Attorney General’s race.
As for the amendment and proposition items on the ballot, voters approved Amendment 3 to legalize the right to abortion by a margin of 1,531,139 votes to 1,428.041 in favor of “Yes.”
Voters also approved Amendment 7, which prohibits ranked-choice voting and non-citizen voting, 1,952,138 “Yes” votes to 899,408 “No” votes.
Amendment 2 for sports better narrowly was approved, 1,469,866 to 1,462,380.
Amendment 5 for the new Osage River Casino failed 1,510,697-1,372,413.
Amendment 6 for sheriff and prosecuting attorney benefits failed 1,697,649-1,104,920.
As for Proposition A and minimum wage and paid sick leave, that measure was also approved, 1,680-525 to 1,238,080.
In the race for State Rep. District 141, Melissa Schmidt (R), defeated Michael Bates (D) by a 17,644 to 2,369 margin.
Incumbent Bernie Cook (R) defeated Bernadette Holzer (D) in the State Rep. District 143 race by a 16,288 to 2,739 margin.
As for the U.S. District 8 race, incumbent Jason Smith (R) beat Randi McCallian by a 270,813 to 77,373 margin.
As for local questions, the Wright County sales use tax measure was voted down, 5,711 to 2,806. The City of Mansfield’s law enforcement question was voted down in a close vote, 266 to 204.
