“Arthur” creator to receive pristigious award

There’s been a buzz in the Mansfield community as several famous people are on tap to make an appearance in town for events. In a little more than two weeks, actor Richard Thomas, best known for his role as John-Boy on “The Waltons,“ and “The Voice” finalists Dek of Hearts, will be appearing at the annual Wilder Days slated for Sep. 25-26.
One more famous person was recently scheduled to make an appearance in Mansfield in November. Acclaimed American author and illustrator, Marc Brown, has been named the recipient of the 2026 Laura Ingalls Wilder Children’s Literature Award. Brown is known for being the creator of the “Arthur” book series. He will receive the award at a special event held during the Laura Ingalls Wilder Children’s Literature Festival Nov. 5-6.
Brown first published “Arthur’s Nose” in 1976 before writing a dozen of books featuring stories focused on family, kindness and growing up.
He then helped to create the award-winning PBS animated television series, “Arthur.” That show would air in more than 80 counties and received multiple Emmy awards and a prestigious Peabody Award.
The show was on the air for 25 years and 253 episodes before the series finale in 2022.
