Mansfield Lions track wins district title, girls get second

Both the Mansfield Grove boys and girls track and field athletes celebrate their success in the Class 2, District 5 meet. The Lions won their first district championship while the Lady Lions were district runner-up at the event held in Cuba.
For the first time, the Mansfield Lions won the Class 2, District 5 District championship as a team after tying School of the Osage with 108 team points.
Individually, the Lions won district titles in seven different events.
Blake Henry won the district title in the 100 meters (11.31), the 200 meters (23.15) and the 400 meters (51.48).
Nolyn Corder was district champion in the 1,600 meters (4:33.82). He was also second in the 3,200 (9:59.47).
Malachi Ussery won a district title in the 300-meter hurdles (43.25) and in the long jump (6.49 meters). He was also second in the triple jump (12.33 meters).
Meanwhile, the 4x400-meter relay team won the district title with a time of 3:37.83.
Riley Pierson was fourth place in the long jump (5.62 meters) and Zachary Perkins qualified for sectionals in the discus with his toss of 31.45 meters for fourth place.
Also earning team points were Pierson in the 300-meter hurdles (46.96) and the 4x200-meter relay team (46.96), both placing seventh.
The Lady Lions were district runner-up with 93 team points in districts after winning six event championships.
Cali Lemons swept the hurdles after winning the district title in both the 100-meter hurdles (16.99) and the 300-meter hurdles (50.14).
Faith Clark won the district crown in the 800 meters with a time of 2:28.09. She was also second in the 1,600 meters race (5:41.39).
Addie Jones won district championships in both the long jump (4.47 meters) and the triple jump (9.62 meters). Laikyn Ball was third in the long jump (4.2 meters).
As for relays, the 4x200-meter won the district title (1:53.94) while the 4x100 (55.99) and the 4x400 (4:31.04) were both second.
Though she didn’t qualify for this weekend’s state sectionals in Mountain Grove, Jacie Ussery was sixth place in the shot put after her toss of 7.49 meters.
