Mansfield Lions pick up pair of wins

The Mansfield Lions’ basketball team entered this week’s Class 2, District 10 Tournament that they are hosting with a two-game winning streak.
They picked up a Summit Conference win over Fordland after a 22-point third quarter helped them get past the Eagles, 66-59.
They trailed by six early in spite of Zach McCrite’s five points.
In the second quarter, Malachi Ussery scored five points as the Lions trailed by four points at halftime.
Six different players scored in a 22-point third quarter as Haven Proetz, Blake Henry and Fisher Croney each scored four points.
Croney then added eight points in a 17-point final quarter to help the Lions get the win.
Croney scored a team-high 15 points; Riley Stidham added 12; Henry had eight; Ussery scored seven points; both Riley Pierson and Proetz had six points; McCrite added five; Kellen Campbell had four; and Charlie Grubbs scored three points.
In a road contest at Greenfield on Feb. 17, the Lions dominated their way to a 79-45 win.
Pierson scored four points in a 13-point first quarter for an early four-point edge.
That is when Mansfield outscored Greenfield, 28-13, before halftime to go up 19 at the break.
Proetz made a pair of 3-pointers for six points while Henry had eight points.
The Lions made four, 3-pointers in a 20-point third quarter to pull away for good as Grubbs made two of them.
Ten different Lions scored in the win.
Proetz made four, 3-opinters for 14 points; Stidham added 11; Grubbs had 10; Pierson had nine points; both Ussery and Henry had eight; Campbell scored seven points; Croney had six; Kaden Young scored four points; and Brayden Stuart had two points.
