Mansfield Lions get big win over Seymour, fall to Gainesville
Last week, the Mansfield Lions split a pair of Summit Conference games.
They first traveled to Seymour and knocked off a now 18-win Tigers’ team in overtime, 62-53.
In the final session, the Lions outscored the Tigers, 13-4, with the help of Fisher Croney’s six points and five from Kellen Campbell.
Earlier in the contest, Croney scored six of the Lions’ 13 points for an early four-point edge.
Seymour closed the gap to one point at halftime in spite of Blake Henry’s six points.
Henry and Campbell both scored four points in a 10-point third quarter, but the Lions trailed, 38-35, heading into the fourth quarter.
The two players scored four points each in the final frame while the defense held the Tigers to 11 points to send the game into overtime.
Croney scored a team-high 18 points; Henry had 16; Campbell scored 15 points; Charlie Grubbs had six points; Jace Headrick had three points; while both Riley Stidham and Haven Proetz had two points.
After handing a now 18-win Seymour team with just their sixth loss of the season, the Lions ended the week with a disappointing 56-44 loss in Gainesviille.
In the first quarter, the Bulldogs went on a 15-9 run.
Stidham scored five points in the first before his Lions had just nine more points before halftime as Mansfield trailed 25-18 at the break.
Mansfield rallied to cut the lead to three points at the end of the third quarter with the help of Henry’s six points and five more points from Stidham.
Gainesville would pull away though in the final eight minutes with a 23-14 run.
Stidham had 14 points; Henry scored 12; Proetz added nine points; Campbell scored five points; and Croney scored four points.
