Lady Lions push winning streak to three straight

The Mansfield Lady Lions’ basketball team pushed their winning streak to three in a row recently when they picked up a pair of wins over Gainesville and Spokane.
In their Summit Conference opener on the road against the Lady Bulldogs, Mansfield’s defense held Gainesville to just one point in the fourth quarter to hold on for a 27-24 victory.
Early in the contest, three made free throws accounted for all of the Lady Lions’ points in the first quarter.
Trailing by three points, Mansfield did make 9-of-10 from the charity stripe in the second quarter to close the gap to one point at halftime. Elly Williams scored six points in the quarter.
Mansfield would trail by two points entering the fourth quarter when Cali Lemons scored four points to help her team pick up the three-point win.
Williams scored a team-high 11 points for the Lady Lions. Both Haven Tripp and Lemons added six points; Kayley Kingery scored two points; while both Kendall Sanders and Mylee Sullivan scored one point.
In a home contest against Spokane, the Lady Lions trailed by five points at halftime before rallying for a 62-52 win.
Addie Jones, Kingery and Lemons each scored four points in the first half, but the Lady Lions trailed 25-20 at the break.
Mansfield then put together a 23-point third quarter as Williams scored eight points and Lemons added six points.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Lions completed their 42-27 run with Jones scoring nine points and Lemons adding five more.
Jones finished with a team-high 18 points; Lemons had 16; Williams scored 14; Kingery had seven; Tripp added five; and Sullivan scored two points.
