Norwood Farmers Day set for Oct. 5
The 43rd Annual Norwood Farmers Day Festival held on Saturday, Oct. 5 this year is set to be packed full of music and fun for everyone!
The theme this year is “Our Youth are the Future of Farming - Celebrating 4-H & FFA.” This year, the committee is thrilled to welcome The Stanley Jones Singers and Bryant Creek Trio to the Stage.
The day will kick-off with the Children’s Parade starting at 11 a.m. Line-up will be at 10:30 a.m. at the old hotel. Contestants will be judged at 10:45 a.m. prior to the parade start. Special thanks to the family of Iris Joe Kelly for the donation of the cash prizes for the kids in his honor. For information on the Children’s Parade, contact Mitzi Campbell at 417-259-3777.
The main parade will begin at 11:15 a.m. Line-up will begin at 10:15 a.m. at Norwood School. Contestants will be judged at 10:30 a.m. prior to the parade start. Plaques will be awarded to first place winners. Floats winners will receive cash prizes! This year, we are honored to announce our Grand Marshal for the parade will be long-time ag education and FFA Sponsor Chris Sinning. Immediately following the parade, for the first time, there will be a Cruise-In on Main St. in front of the City Hall building. There will be door prizes for the participants. Drivers can drive in the parade and then right over to the cruise-in if they would like to! Call Robert at 417-268-5298 for more details or questions. Also immediately following the parade, booths will open at the pavilion grounds. We have a selection of food trails, crafts, sno-cones, baked goods and carnivals games on slate for this year.
The Opening Ceremony kicks off at 12 noon with the National Anthem performed by the Norwood School Music Department. The Color Guard will be provided by the Tri-County Veterans.
A presentation ceremony and remarks will honor our Grand Marshal Chris Sinning. Also at 12 noon, a Cornhole Tournament will begin at Masonic Lodge No. 622 on Main St. in Norwood. At 12:15 p.m. (approximately), the Stanley Jones Singers will take the main stage. Stanley Jones and family have been ministering to people far and wide for over 60 years. Their harmonies are always crowd pleasing and they are always a fan favorite! Don’t Miss them! The Bryant Creek Trio will take the stage at 2:15 p.m. This group is so much fun to listen to! Their harmony is amazing and they are sure to be a favorite! Parade awards will be announced at the main stage at approximately 1:15 p.m. At 4 p.m., “RezArect” a resurrections of the 80’s will take the stage. This dynamic due will cover 80’s hits for your entertainment.
This year, we will again hold our annual Baking Contest. The three categories this year are pies and cobblers, sweet breads, and your favorite dessert. Cash prizes will be given to the blue ribbon winner in each category. Entries must be turned in by 1 p.m.at the old city hall building to the North of the Pavilion Stage. Refrigeration will be available. Winners will be announced at approximately 3 p.m. Entries will then be auctioned off. All money raised will go toward the Norwood Farmers Day Scholarship Fund. Don’t forget to stop by the Norwood Farmers Day Committee to the right of the Pavilion Stage and buy your raffle tickets! The purchase of raffle tickets is what funds a majority of the activities we can offer at Farmers Day. Tickets are two for a $1 and we will have a wide variety of prizes donated by area business, as well as tickets and vouchers for Branson shows, Springfield Cardinals tickets and more! You are not required to be present to win. If you would like to purchase your tickets ahead of the date, contact a committee member listed in this article.
The Seventh Annual Norwood Baseball/Softball Alumni Slow-Pitch Game will kick off with the first pitch at 5 p.m. This is always such a fun event! Participants need to email dmiller@norwood.k12.mo.us to register. Registration cost is $30 per player. Concession stand will be available. The baseball team will be raffling off a free processing package donated by Williams Meat Company and a $200 prize pack from Eagle Outdoors donated by Baseball Alumni Aaron Spencer. Raffle tickets are $5 each. Funds raised will go toward player gear and a windscreen.
