Lady Eagles’ skid reaches five straight
After advancing to the recent finals of the Cabool Invitational Tournament, the Hartville Lady Eagles had hit a run of tough losses as they now have a five-game losing streak.
They opened the recent stretch against Summit Conference foe Sparta and lost on their home court by 20 points, 52-32.
Sparta opened the game with a 19-point first quarter for a nine-point edge. Kinley Cryer paced Hartville early with two, 3-pointers.
The Lady Eagles’ offense was then held to nine points or less in the final three quarters.
Saige Petty did score four late points to help the Lady Eagles outscore the Lady Trojans in the final eight minutes, 7-4.
Cryer finished with 10 points; Mattie Brown had nine points; Sarah Palmer scored six points; while both Katia Todd and Petty both scored four points.
One day later, the Lady Eagles ran into a Forsyth team that would pick up just their fifth win of the season as part of a three-game winning streak. Hartville lost to the Lady Panthers, 63-32.
Cryer made two, 3-pointers and both Brown and Palmer scored four points in a 16-point opening quarter, though Hartville trailed 19-16 early.
The Lady Eagles scored just two points in the second quarter as Forsyth rallied to take a 10-piont lead into halftime.
Forsyth made five, 3-pointers in the second half and outscored Hartville, 32-14.
Palmer had 10 points in the loss; both Todd and Cryer scored eight points; while Brown had six points.
The Lady Eagles then ran into Dora and became the Lady Falcons’ third straight win, 52-44.
Brown scored all of Hartville’s seven points in the opening quarter.
Down nine, Brown helped her team rally before halftime with four points as Hartville trailed by five points.
She then opened the third quarter with nine points, but her team was unable to complete a late rally.
Brown scored a team-high 22 points; Cryer and Palmer each scored six points; Brielle Kline had five points; and both Todd and Cantrell scored two points. Hartville also lost to rival Norwood, 64-47. (Information from that game appears in the Lady Pirates’ article.)
