Hartville Lady Eagles take second in Fordland Invitational

The Hartville Lady Eagles’ basketball team saw their four point halftime lead get away in the finals of the Fordland Invitational last Friday night as they fell, 49-40.
Kinley Cryer hit a 3-pointer and Maddie Brown converted a 3-point play in an early 6-0 run. Greenwood rallied and hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to tie the game at 14-14 at the end of the first quarter.
Greenwood opened the second quarter with a 3-pointer for a  now 6-0 run. Culver would convert a big 3-point play to help her team go back in front, 22-21.
Cryer would end the second with a 3-pointer to give her squad a 27-23 halftime lead.
Early in the third quarter, Brown picked up her fourth foul.
Cryer assisted Sarah Palmer for a basket, but Greenwood would rally for a 35-32 lead.
In the fourth quarter, Greenwood made 7-of-12 shots from the field to pull away for the win.
Cryer led the Lady Eagles with 14 points, three assists, two rebounds and two steals in the loss as she made the All-Tournament team.
Brown, who was also on the All-Tournament team, had 12 points, two rebounds, two blocks and one steal.
Culver had nine points, four rebounds and one assist; while Palmer five points and four rebounds.
In the semifinals, the Lady Eagles’ defense held Dora to six points or less in all four quarters of a 31-16 victory.
Hartville’s 12-point third quarter was just enough to help them pull away for the win.
Brown scored 13 points; Cryer had eight; Palmer added seven; and Carlyn Cantrell had two points.
In the opening round, Hartville cruised past School of the Ozarks, 66-33 with the help of a 27-point third quarter.
In that frame, Brown scored 13 points while Cryer had seven points.
Hartville did score 21 points in the first quarter.
Brown had 21 points; Cryer had four 3-pointers for 21 points; Culver and Palmer had 10; while both Jacey Revey and Cantrell scored two.
