Hartville Eagles defeat Lighthouse

The Hartville Eagles’ basketball team split a pair of tough games last week and their record is now 13-5 overall on the season.
Hartville traveled to Springfield and battle Lighthouse Christian on the campus of Evangel University back on Jan. 21.
After holding the Chargers to just five points in the third quarter, Hartville pulled away for a 72-47 victory.
Harmon Johns scored five points and three other players added four points for an early 17-9 lead.
Mason Cogdill took over the game in the second quarter as he scored 12 points in a 20-point second quarter for a 37-24 halftime edge.
He added another eight points in a 22-point third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Hartville made 6-of-8 free throws and Boone Garrison hit a big 3-pointer to help seal the win for the Eagles.
Mason Cogdill finished with 24 points; Garrison added 11; Payton Cogdill and Jackson Ward each had 10 points; Johns had nine points; Gus Sinning scored five points; Truett Coryell added two points; and Jordan O’Quinn scored one point.
Hartville ended their week by hosting a now 13-win Logan-Rogersville squad and dropped a tough 45-33 decision to the Wildcats.
Early on in the match-up between the No. 6 team in Class 2 (Hartville) and the No. 2 team in Class 4 (Logan-Rogersville), the Wildcats made three, 3-pointers for an early 14-7 advantage.
Payton Cogdill would score all of his team’s four points then in the second quarter as Hartville would trail by 11 points at halftime.
Ward came up big with eight of his team’s 10 points in the third quarter, but it wasn’t enough in the 12-point loss.
Ward finished with 10 points; Payton Cogdill scored eight points; Johns hit two, 3-pointers for six points; Mason Cogdill had four points; while Garrison scored three points.
