Volunteers and donations sought locally for Quilts for Kids program

Local volunteers are being sought for Quilts for Kids, founded in August 2000 by Linda Arye. The program is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing warmth and comfort to children in need through well-crafted quilts.
Over the past 25 years, their program has not only brought warmth to thousands of children, but it has also saved millions of pounds of unused fabric, significantly reducing both local and international fabric waste.
The organization’s mission began with a simple thought that arose when Linda was placing an order for a client.
She noticed the surplus of beautiful designer fabrics that were bound to be discarded like little more than common waste.
This compelled her to find a way to repurpose these valuable materials. The first idea that came to her mind was creating patchwork quilts.
This inspiration was further fueled by a memory of her daughter, who, while hospitalized, was unable to have her comforting teddy bear.
However, she could have had a warm quilt to comfort her. This combination of thoughts led to the founding of Quilts for Kids Inc.
Locally, Quilts for Kids collaborates with various small businesses, including Blue Star Bakery, Westside Family Life Center, and the Child Advocacy Center.
With the support of these generous businesses and volunteers from Wright County and neighboring areas, Quilts for Kids makes a remarkable impact, assisting more than 30,000 individuals in need each year. This is achieved through monthly “quilt-ins” and periodic workshops where eager quilters can learn invaluable skills from more experienced members. The organization actively invites and encourages the participation of teens and preteens, providing them with rewarding work experience and a sense of purpose within this uplifting community.
Every donation and volunteer contribution is essential to the organization’s ability to make a difference, and they dearly value those who make these contributions.
No donation goes unnoticed, and no volunteer goes unheard.
While expertise in the craft is welcome, it is not at all required. They value nothing more than the innate drive for the betterment of others’ lives, and make no mistake, these remarkable quilt crafting heroes work tirelessly in order to make sure that no child in need is left without a trusty patchwork companion by their side.
Their dedication and creative spirit not only provide warmth and comfort to those they remedy, but they exemplify that not all heroes wear capes, in fact, they may simply wear quilts.
