Zena Vee Atchison

Zena Vee Atchison, daughter of the late Thomas and Beatrice (Gary) Ham, was born April 6, 1948, in Fort Worth, Texas, and passed from this life Dec. 9, 2021, in Mountain Grove. She was 73 years, 8 months and 3 days of age. Zena grew up and attended school in the Fort Worth and Cisco, Texas areas. She was united in marriage to Harvey Atchison in Reno, Nev. Two sons were born to this union, Dale and Dean. They raised their family primarily on a farm in the Dawson community. Zena enjoyed gardening and canning vegetables. She also enjoyed helping with daily farm chores of feeding the animals and helping in the dairy barn. She was a wonderful cook and baker and loved preparing Thanksgiving and Christmas meals each year. She enjoyed being the neighborhood mom and hosting and planning all birthday parties and BBQ’s. Later in life, she enjoyed playing BINGO at the senior citizen center each week and riding the OATS bus. Besides her parents, Zena was preceded in death by three sisters, Frances Whitt, Lynette Brassfield and Mary Eastep; and one brother, Paul Ham. Zena is survived by her husband, Harvey Atchison, of Mountain Grove; two sons, Dale Atchison, of Mountain Grove, and Dean Atchison and wife, Linda, of Graff; two brothers, Virgel Keene and Tom Jr. Ham; four sisters, Jean Ford, Joyce Barrington, Tina Moore and Nancy Whitt; four grandchildren, Brandon Atchison, Luke Atchison, Chris Atchison and Kyla Atchison-Shannon; five great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Hannah, and Brody Atchison, and Ollie and Ella Shannon; numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly. Funeral services for Zena Atchison were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021, at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mountain Grove. Serving as officiant was the Rev. Dewey Atchison. Pallbearers were Brandon Atchison, Luke Atchison, Chris Atchison and Chris Shannon. Special songs were “In The Garden,” “Amazing Grace” and “The Blind Man In The Bleachers.” Burial was in the Hopewell Cemetery under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home of Mountain Grove.
