Zack Black wins district crown

Norwood’s track and field team had athletes advance in multiple events to next week’s Sectionals in Sarcoxie after several top four finishes in the Class 1, District 6 meet held in Reeds Spring.

The program was led by Zack Black in the district event that featured 17 teams.

Black won the district title in the long jump event after leaping 5.95m. He also was second in the 400 meters with a time of 53.77. His teammate Just Chadwell advanced in the 400 after

placing fourth (54.86).

Also earning team points for the Pirates were Black, who was fifth in the 100 meters (12.12) and Chadwell in the 200 (24.72). Andrew Hooker just missed earning team points as he was ninth in the shot put with a toss of 9.49m.

Leading the Lady Pirates was Annie Sullivan, who won the district title in the discus with a toss of 25.3m.

She just missed a top four finish in the shot put after her toss of 8.59m gave her fifth place.

Graci Sanders earned team points with an eighth place finish in the long jump (3.99m). Lydia Smith was eighth in the 1,600 meters (6:49.69).

Before districts, Norwood competed in at meet held at Southwest Baptist University.

Black took third in the long jump (6.19m) for the program’s best finish in a meet featuring around 40 schools.
