There was a murder conviction in nearby Douglas County last week.
According to a press release from the Douglas County Prosecuting Attorney Chris Wade’s office, Glenda M. Young, 71, of Ava, was convicted of first degree murder and armed criminal action by Judge Calvin Holden. The case was tried in Ava on Thursday and Friday, June 11-12.
The defendant was charged with killing her husband David Young on Jan. 20, 2017 after allegedly shooting him in the face.
The defendant had alleged the victim had died from an accidental discharge of the firearm while cleaning it.
The investigation was conducted by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department.
