Wright County woman pleads guilty in malnourished case of 6-year-old

One of two Wright County parents charged has plead guilty in the malnourished case of their 6-year-old daughter.

LaTisha Cantrell, now 29, officially made her guilty plea on Dec. 9. A sentencing hearing has now been set for 9 a.m. on Feb. 23, 2022.

Joey Moore, 27, of Mansfield, has not plead guilty as of press time.

His case will go to trial in 2022.

Both parents were originally charged for endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree and abuse or neglect causing serous emotional or physical injury.

According to the initial report on the case, the 6-year-old girl weighed just 21 pounds upon arriving to the hospital in August 2020.

She reportedly weighed 28 pounds in 2018.

The charges included a requirement for both Cantrell and Moore to have no contact with the victim or another child under the age of 18 unless permitted by the Children’s Division.
