Wilma Jean Chandler

Wilma Jean Chandler, daughter of the late Oliver Milton and Katie Elizabeth (Ledbetter) Dennis, was born April 28, 1938, in Wright County, Missouri, and departed this life May 10, 2020, at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston. She was 82 years and 12 days of age. Wilma grew up and attended school in Wright County. She was united in marriage to Joe Franklin Chandler on July 14, 1957. They moved to Jerome, Idaho, and started their family. One son was born to this union, Ronald Joe Chandler. After living in Idaho a few years, they moved back to Mountain Grove, where they made their home for the rest of their lives. Wilma had a kind spirit and loved listening to music and working in her flower gardens. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was always sure to show them love with each visit. She was saved and baptized at a young age and was a longtime member of Southside Baptist Church of Mountain Grove. Wilma loved her church family and enjoyed attending as long as her health permitted. Besides her parents, Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Chandler, on Aug. 7, 1991; and by her son, Ronald Joe Chandler, on Dec. 2, 1996. Wilma is survived by two sisters, Hazel Lathrom and husband, Eugene, of Mountain Grove, and Lola Lathrom and husband, Jerry, of Mountain Grove; several nephews, cousins, friends and a special friend who helped care for her through Oxford Home Health, Shelly Freeman. Wilma will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services for Wilma Chandler were held Thursday, May 14, 2020, at 2 p.m. at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Adamson officiating. Song selections were “Sweet By and By,” “Amazing Grace” and “The Old Rugged Cross.”  Grant Lathrom, Josh Lathrom, Doyle Lathrom, Terry Lathrom, Levi Knight, Kaleb Lathrom and Jeff Craig served as pallbearers. Robert Kelsay, Johnny Shores, Bill Austin and Iby Edwards served as honorary pallbearers. Burial was in Steele Memorial Cemetery, Hartville, under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mountain Grove. Online condolences: www.craighurttfuneralhome.com.
