The Wright County Retired Teachers and other School Personnel held their October meeting Tuesday, Oct. 19. Dr. Jimmie Marler reported on a possible data breach at PSRS/PEERS. If your data may have been part of the breach, you will receive notification from PSRS/PEERS in the mail with instructions about steps to take to protect your information. Karma Murr was our speaker on the topic of heart health. Ms Murr has been an RN for 35 years and has a wealth of experience. She is currently working as a cardiac rehabilitation nurse at Citizen’s Hospital in Bolivar. She shared that heart disease is the number one killer of both men and women in the United States.

We learned there are two kinds of risk factors for heart disease, those we can control and those we cannot control. Factors out of our control are age, gender, and family history. But we need to work hard to control our blood pressure and our cholesterol levels. Tobacco use is a very dangerous habit for the health of our hearts; but controlling our weight and exercising daily will contribute to the health of our hearts.

Our next meeting will be Nov. 16 at Faith Community Church of the Nazarene in Mountain Grove at 10 a.m.

Our speaker will be State Rep. Hannah Kelly.
