Vera Mae Harvey

Vera Mae Harvey, of Springfield, was called home July 12, 2021, after a brief illness with cancer. Vera was born April 17, 1936, in Drury, to Luther Curtis and Omega (Johnston) Curtis. She was a member of and attended Charity Baptist Church of Springfield, and New Testament Baptist Church, of Benton, Ky. Five children were born to the union of Vera Mae (Curtis) Dennis and Alfred Glen Dennis. Vera was preceded in death by her two sons, Michael Dennis and Myron Dennis, and two granddaughters, Susan Willhite and Carrie Romero. Vera is survived by three daughters, Loretta Hassell, of Nixa; Loetta Fieker, of Springfield; and Lorraine Romero, of Cleveland, Texas. Vera was also preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Omega Curtis; brothers, Elzie Curtis, Voydal Curtis, Hubert Curtis and Wayne Curtis. She is survived by brothers, Van Curtis, Charlie Curtis and Lonnie Curtis; and sister, Irene Lawler. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Ben Hassell, Carolyn Willhite, Misti Morrison, Christina Faul, Holly Martinez and Sonya Cornejo; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous other great-great-grandchildren, family and friends. Vera was a very sweet and loving person. She was compassionate with others and a great storyteller. She was a woman of strong faith, believing in the power and strength of Jesus Christ’s love and the beauty and peace that await her after her passing.

Visitation for Vera Harvey was held Thursday, July 15, 2021, from 9-10 a.m. at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home. Funeral services followed the visitation at 10 a.m., also at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ken Gaines officiating. Song selections were “O Come Angel Band,” “This Is Just What Heaven Means To Me,” “Go Rest High On That Mountain” and “Amazing Grace.” Vera’s family members served as pallbearers.  Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mountain Grove.
