He was born and raised in the Hartville community and moved around Wright County working as a farmer and dairy farmer. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army during the Korean War and then returned to his wife and infant child. He and Ann made their home on their farm, and lovingly raised their family. Thurman worked the farm until 1993, when he and Ann retired and moved to Lebanon. Thurman had a deep abiding faith in God and was a member of Green Hills Freewill Baptist Church in Lebanon. He was a member of the American Legion, and loved to travel. He and Ann had visited Alaska and Canada and enjoyed times on the Ten Killer Lake in Oklahoma. He enjoyed fishing and liked helping others. His favorite food was sausage biscuits and gravy. He was a strong man both physically and constitutionally and was the rock of his family. He loved his family dearly and especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
