Thomas Jefferson Jackson III

Thomas Jefferson Jackson III was born to Thomas Jefferson Jackson II and Anna (Ried) Jackson on April 1, 1931, in Norwood, and passed away June 1, 2021, in Springfield. He was 90 years and two months of age. Thomas grew up in Norwood and graduated with the class of 1949. Following graduation, he moved to Detroit, Mich., to begin a career in the auto industry. Thomas was drafted into the Army and served in the Korean War. After discharge, he moved back to Detroit, Mich. and worked for Chrysler for 30 years. Thomas married Carolyn McLaughlin on July 28, 1956, in Detroit, Mich. Three sons were born to this union, Thomas, Jeffery and Robert. Thomas and Carolyn returned to Norwood to enjoy their retirement years. He enjoyed woodworking, woodcarving and making various wood pieces for family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Jackson, and brother, William Jackson. Thomas is survived by his three sons, Thomas Jackson and wife, Kathy, of Aurora; Jeffery Jackson, of Muskogee, Okla., and wife, Holly, of Springfield; Robert Jackson and wife, Frances, of Springfield; four grandchildren, Sarah Wickins (Brian), Benjamin Jackson, Aaron Barnhart (Shawn) and Krista Thomason; and seven great-grandchildren, Cy, Eli, Anna, Abel, Jax, Lea and Josh. Visitation for Thomas Jackson was held Saturday, June 5, 2021, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home. Funeral services followed the visitation at 2:30 p.m., also at the funeral home, with John Williams officiating. Song selections were “Sweet By And By,” “Amazing Grace” and “Going Home.” Robert Jackson, Jeffery Jackson, Thomas Jackson, Sarah Wickins, Brian Wickins and Nick Weyland served as pallbearers.   Aaron Barnhart, Cy Wickins and Eli Wickins served as honorary pallbearers. Burial was in Jackson Family Cemetery, Norwood, under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mountain Grove.
