Smiths qualify for state

The Norwood Pirates boys and girls cross country runners had two runners qualify for this Saturday’s Class 1 state championship race after earning Top-30 finishes in the Class 1, District 2 race in Clever. The lone Lady Pirates’ runner, Lydia Smith, earned her spot after taking 26th place with a time of 24:39.79. This is her third time qualifying for state.

As for the boys program, Ben Smith was 19th place with a time of 19:02.36 to qualify. Ben qualified for the second time in his career.

Cameron Kelly (20:28.78) and Gabe Todd (24:15.95) also competed.

“I am very proud of them and all of our Pirate runners today,” said Norwood head coach David Drake. “They each gave it their best and ran well today. I appreciate their hard work this year and their improvement. Great day to be a Pirate.”

At the Summit Conference race in Conway before districts, Lydia Smith was 15th overall with a time of 25:40.90.

On the boys side, Ben Smith earned All-Conference honors with an eighth place finish (19:00.00). Kelly (21:15.30) and Todd (23:35.80) also participated.
