Roger Lee Harrison

Roger Lee Harrison, son of the late Ruel and Golda (Stallcup) Harrison, was born Jan. 24, 1940, in Fort Benton, Mont., and passed away April 8, 2023, at his home in Mountain Grove, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 83 years, 2 months and 15 days of age. Roger spent his younger years in Montana and Missouri. He graduated from Mountain Grove High School in 1960 and went into the United States Army before receiving an honorable discharge on May 14, 1965.

In 1966, Roger met Peggy Hart in Kansas City, and they were married on Sep. 24, 1966. They moved to Idaho Springs, Colo., in 1969 and raised their family. Prior to retirement, Roger worked as an over the road truck driver for 35 years. After retiring, he and his family moved back to Mountain Grove, Missouri, in 2017.

Roger spent much of his free time racing cars, either on the circle track or later on the drag strip. He was a loving husband, father, grandpa, brother and friend.

Roger was preceded in death by his father, Ruel Harrison, and mother, Golda "Goldie" Casey; as well as his step-father, Glen Casey, of Mountain Grove. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Peggy; three children, Michelle Harrison-Lipe, of Mountain Grove; Richard Harrrison, of Saint Petersburg, Fla.; and Robert Harrison, of Neosho; five grandchildren, Steven Lipe, Brian Gonzalez, Rachael Krauter, Alexis Harrison and Aidan Orcutt; one great-grandson, Ryan Krauter; one brother, Ray Harrison; six half-siblings; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Roger will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Memorial services for Roger Harrison were held Friday, April 14, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mountain Grove, with Pastor Alan Hart officiating.  Song selections were “He Stopped Loving Her Today” and “Amazing Grace.”  Military Honors were by the United States Army and American Legion Post No. 30. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Three Rivers Hospice. Services and cremation were under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mountain Grove.
