Reacting to the DC riots

Posted

Like most of you, my heart broke for the loss of life at the riot at the Capitol building in Washington, D.C. after what was mostly a peaceful protest rally that day.

And it was a peaceful day. I had two cousins who live in Maryland that attended the event talk about their experience on their Facebook pages. We also had some folks from Mountain Grove who made the trip and gave me a brief report on the good of what they saw that day. While there is speculation on the involvement of groups like Antifa, the ones causing the most mischief on video and in photographs were from a conservative group of Trump supporters called Qanon. I remember President Donald Trump being asked about this group during the debates. I too didn’t know much about them. Well, they have now left their mark and definitely hurt the president more than they helped him.

Lord willing, more safety protocol will be put into place for future D.C. demonstrations. I never thought I’d ever see a group occupy the Capitol building. I grew up near D.C. so this really hits close to home for me.

So now what? Well, between the hatred shown that day and the reactions filled with hatred in the aftermath, the only peace I find as a Christian is knowing that the Lord is in control.

II Chronicles 7:14 says, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

Our nation needs a healing. It’s so divided. I encourage others to pray and love others more than perhaps ever before. We can only control what we can control.
