Pirates beat Gainesville for Homecoming victory

The Norwood Pirates moved their record to an impressive 17-4 last Friday night when they knocked off Summit Conference foe Gainesville, a 15-7 squad, 63-42.

The Pirates victory was extra sweet as well since it came on Homecoming night in Norwood.

Norwood was in control early as both Garrett Davault and Jalen Drake hit 3-point shots. Davault had six points in the frame to give the Pirates an early five point lead.

In the second quarter, Gavin McGraw scored six points and Drake added a second 3-pointer to put Norwood up by seven at halftime.

Davault took over the game in the third quarter as he scored 12 points to help the Pirates go up by 14.

Norwood would go on to win the game by 21 points against a solid Bulldogs squad.

Davault led all scorers with 32 points. McGraw add 12 points, Drake had eight points, Jacob Sinning scored six and Justin Chadwell had five points.

Before that win, Davault scored an astounding 50 points to lift the Pirates over Fordland, 82-31.

Davault made eight 3-pointers in the victory.

Norwood scored 24 points as a team in the first quarter and had 28 more in the second quarter to pull away for good.

Chadwell finished with 12 points; McGraw had seven; Sinning scored six points; Max McGowan had three points; and both Zack Black and Josh Bradshaw had two points.
