Panthers cruise their way to three big victories

The Mountain Grove Panthers baseball team cruised to three dominating wins last week after outscoring their opponents 39-9.

Against rival Norwood, the Panthers scored six in the second and five in the fourth to pull away for a 14-5 victory.

Mountain Grove had three home runs in the win while Norwood’s hitters added two more home runs.

Jackson Raney had two home runs, three hits, five RBIs and two runs scored; Nick Archer had a home run, four hits, six RBIs and two runs scored; Drew Vaughan two RBIs and two runs scored; Brendon Rogers added one RBI and scored twice; while Gatlin Keeling, Hoyt Mathews and Wes Drew each scored one run.

Raney picked up the win on the mound after tossing two and two-thirds innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits with four strikeouts. Bryce Stenzel went four and a third innings and allowed one earned run on three hits with six strikeouts.

As for Norwood, Zack Black had a home run, two RBIs and one run scored; Dylan Calhoun had a home run, one RBI and one run scored; Dillon Bennett added two RBIs and one run scored; while Jacob Sinning, Gavin McGraw and Toby Cottengim each scored one run.

On the mound, Black went one and two-thirds innings and gave up six earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts.

Cottengim went two innings and allowed three earned runs on four hits with two strikeouts. McGraw went the final two and a third innings and gave up one earned run on three hits.

The Panthers started their week with an 11-1 win over Thayer.

Mountain Grove scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back.

Raney had two RBIs and one run scored; both Archer and Jase Dowden had two RBIs; Rogers scored twice and had one RBI; Vaughan and Stenzel each scored twice; Keeling had one RBI and one run scored; Drew scored twice; and Dominic Palagi scored one time.

On the mound, Rogers went three innings and allowed no earned runs on two hits with four strikeouts. Stenzel tossed three innings of shutout ball and allowed two hits with four strikeouts.

Mountain Grove ended their week by crushing Dora, 14-3, with a 17-hit attack.

Both Hunter Means and Rogers had three RBIs and one run scored; Archer had two RBIs; Stenzel scored three times; Vaughan had one RBI and scored twice; Gabe Linton, Raney, Mathews, Palagi and Drew each scored one run.

Rogers went two innings on the mound and allowed no earned runs on two hits with five strikeouts.

Means tossed four innings and allowed one earned run on four hits with two strikeouts.
