Norwood scores 90 in win over Bakersfield

On a night where Norwood senior Garrett Davault was honored with a basketball to celebrate his 2,000th career point, the Pirates opened the game against Bakersfield with an offensive push toward another 2,000 points.

Norwood scored an astounding 34 points in the first quarter and cruised to an impressive 90-55 victory.

In the first 2:30, the Pirates nearly converted three, 3-point plays.

Davault scored 11 points, Justin Chadwell added seven points and Noah Drake hit two 3-pointers.

With 2:10 left in the quarter, Norwood already scored 26 points.

In the second quarter, Davault continued to pour it on with another 11 points. Meanwhile, he was picking up assists that helped with Jacob Sinning, Gavin McGraw and Chadwell each scoring four points. The Pirates scored 25 points in the second quarter and led, 59-33, at halftime. Norwood made 24-of-37 shots from the field in the half.

A third quarter dunk and two 3-pointers by Davault paced Norwood to another 21 points in the third quarter.

With a running clock in the fourth quarter, the Pirates cruised to the 35-point victory.

Davault picked up a triple-double with 30 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.

McGraw added 17 points, three assists and three rebounds; Chadwell tallied 15 points and one rebound; Drake scored nine points, one assist and one steal; Sinning had eight points, five rebounds, two steals and one assist; Brayden Wehrer scored a late four points; Dylan Calhoun added. three points; Max McGowan had two points; while Peyton McDaris had two points, two rebounds and one assist.

As a team, the Pirates made 35-of-57 shots from the field for 61%.
