Norwood Pirates take third in Cabool Holiday event

The Norwood Pirates had a successful run in last week’s Cabool Holiday Tournament.

They nearly knocked off the No. 1 seed team from Thayer in the semifinals and finished the week with a win over Licking in the third place game to end their holiday with some hardware.

In the third place game, Norwood held on late for a 52-50 win over Licking.

Garrett Davault paced the way for the Pirates with 19 points while Justin Chadwell scored 14 points. Jalen Drake had seven, Gavin McGraw added 11 and Zack Black scored two points.

In the semifinals, they lost a heartbreaker to top seed Thayer, 54-49.

Davault paced Norwood with 28 points. McGraw scored 14, Josh Bradshaw had three and both Max McGowan and Chadwell had two points.

One round earlier, the Pirates got off to a slow start due to Gainesville’s size in the middle. Fortunately, Norwood rallied to pick up a 59-46 win.

Davault had 24 points; McGraw had 12; Chadwell had eight; Jacob Sinning scored seven; Drake had six; and McGowan added two points.

In the first round, the Pirates cruised to an easy victory over Lesterville.

Eight Pirates scored in the win.
