Norwood Lady Pirates win Consolation title in own tournament

Don’t look now, but the Norwood Lady Pirates softball team is starting to put some things together.

After their recent slate of games, Norwood has won six of their last seven to pull within one game shy of a .500 record at 7-8. The highlight of their week was winning their second Consolation title this fall when they won two out of three games in their own Family Pharmacy Tournament played in Norwood.

In the Consolation semifinals, Norwood held off Alton, 7-5. Cadence Jarrett paced the Lady Pirates with two hits and one run scored; Catlin Campbell added one RBI and scored one run; Brooke Johnson, Cassie Chadwell and Hailey Hall each had one RBI; while Annie Sullivan, Kylee Bradshaw, Kinley Sinning, Autumn Gunter and Natalie Lawson each scored one run. On the mound, Chadwell tossed five innings and allowed three earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts.

As for the Consolation finals, the Lady Pirates were too much for Seymour as they won, 15-2.

Chadwell was hot at the plate with three hits, three RBIs and three runs scored. Not too far behind Chadwell was Campbell ad her three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Annie Sullivan added three hits, three RBIs and one run scored; Sinning had two runs scored; Harley Finch had two RBIs; Hailey Hall tallied two RBIs and one run scored; Gunter had one RBI and two runs scored; and both Patience Guenther and Jarrett scored one run. Chadwell tossed four innings and gave up two earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts.

In the first round, the Lady Pirates lost to Gainesville, 6-5, just two days after beating them in a regular season match-up. Jarrett led the offense in the three spot with three RBIs and one run scored. Sullivan had one RBI and one run scored; Hall scored twice; and Bradshaw scored one run. Chadwell went six innings and allowed four earned runs on 12 hits with two strikeouts.

On Sep. 23, the Lady Pirates knocked off the same Gainesville team, 3-1. Chadwell was lights out on the mound as she tossed a complete game seven innings, giving up one earned run on nine hits with four strikeouts.

Jarrett had the team’s lone RBI. Chadwell, Sullivan and Bradshaw each scored one run.
