Norwood cross country set for upcoming fall season

Posted

With two returning state qualifiers, the Norwood cross country team is hoping to have runners advance in the postseason during their fall 2021 campaign.

The lone Lady Pirates’ runner is senior Lydia Smith, who  has qualified for the state championships her past two seasons.

“I expect Lydia to compete each meet and improve her times throughout the year,” said Norwood head coach David Drake. “Lydia has been to the state meet the last two years, but I expect her to qualify and have her best finish at the state meet.”

The boys team will be led by sophomore Ben Smith after he qualified for state as a freshman.

Joining him will be juniors Cameron Kelly and Gabe Todd along with freshman Ridgely Cannon.

“Even though we are relatively young, I expect the boys to continue to improve their times throughout the year,” Drake said. “Cameron, Gabe and Ben all broke their personal best times last year, so we want to continue for them to do that again this year. I expect them to compete each meet. Hopefully, we can pickup a couple boys from the baseball team, so we can have a team to compete at districts.”

Norwood opens their season in Willow Spring on Tuesday, Sep. 9.
