Posted

From the opening tip, last Friday night’s game between Norwood and Mansfield was competitive and was going to come down to the team who made the least amount of mistakes in the end.

And on Mansfield’s home court, the Norwood Pirates were able to overcome a much improved Lions squad from a year ago to pick up a 71-68 win in double overtime.

Mansfield led early on, 15-10, behind Chade Noble’s seven first quarter points.

Norwood responded in the second quarter with an 18-point quarter to take a two point lead into halftime.

Noble hit three 3-pointers in the third quarter to pace the Lions at the beginning of the second half. Norwood’s Garrett Davault kept the pace by earning his way to the free throw line and hitting all five free throws.

Davault made two 3-pointers in the fourth and hit four three throws. Meanwhile, Chase Cartwright scored seven points in the final frame to help force a first overtime.

Davault took over the game from there for the Pirates, scored 12 of his team’s 14 points in the two overtime session to help Norwood win the game by three points.

Davault led Norwood with 40 points.

Jacob Sinning scored 11 points; Justin Chadwell had eight points; Gavin McGraw added six points; Max McGowan had four points; and Zack Black had two points.

Mansfield was led by Noble’s breakout game of 32 points after making six 3-pointers.

Both Tom Emerick and Cartwright had 12 points; Troy Kelley scored six points; Rylan Adams added four points; while London Dennis scored two points.
