Norman George Jarrett

Norman George Jarrett, son of the late Jesse Howard and Olive Lavern Jarrett, was born Dec. 26, 1940, in Mountain Grove, and passed away at his home in Theodosia, May 21, 2020. He was 79 years, 4 months and 26 days of age. Norman grew up in Mountain Grove and went to Mountain Grove School. He married Sandy Elliott on May 23, 1963. One son was born to this union. Norman was baptized at Pleasant Hill Church. He worked for 30 years for the City of Mountain Grove and on the Mountain Grove Fire Department, where he served as Fire Chief. He and Sandy moved to Theodosia in 2000 to retire, but Norman didn’t really retire because he loved working and fighting fires. He worked for the Theodosia Fire Department for 18 years. Norman was a respected mentor to many young men on the fire departments.

Norman was a hardworking man who would do anything for anybody. He enjoyed visiting with people and made many friends wherever he was. He was very proud to serve the communities where he lived, but most of all, he was extremely proud of his family.

Besides his parents, Norman was preceded in death by three brothers, Ruban Jarrett, Elza Jarrett and Walter Jarrett; and by one sister, Avis Kennedy. He is survived by his loving wife of their home, Sandy Jarrett; one son, Ted Jarrett and his wife, Marsha, of Mountain Grove; three grandsons, Nathan Jarrett and his wife, Andrea, of Ozark; Heath Jarrett and his wife, Callie, of Woonsocket, R.I.; and Levi Jarrett and his wife, Hannah, of Nixa; one granddaughter, Jessica Delker and her husband, Jacob, of Crane; 13 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Barbra Barnes, of Mountain Grove; Grace Gott, of Kansas City; Dorothy Harris, of Lebanon; and Emma Nungessor, of Mountain Grove; and other relative, neighbors and friends who will dearly miss him.

A Fireman’s Funeral for Norman Jarrett will be held Wednesday, May 27, 2020, at 2 p.m. at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home with the Rev. Matthew Todd officiating. Song selections are “In The Sweet By And By,” “Wind Beneath My Wings” and “Go Rest High On That Mountain.” Nathan Jarrett, Levi Jarrett, Heath Jarrett, Payton Jarrett, Dean Curtis, David Hall, Danny Nungessor and Jacob Belker will serve as pallbearers. Fireman’s Funeral Honors will be given by the Mountain Grove Fire Department. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mountain Grove.
