New Farmers Market built at Mountain Grove square

Posted

A large 40’x75’ area is soon to be the home for the Farmers Market in Mountain Grove.

The plan is for current Farmers Market vendors on the square, along with new vendors, to sell their goods under the sheltered area some time in the next 30 to 60 days. There are plans in place to paint the columns and add a brick feature to them. Lights and fans will be installed as well as a sign noting it as the Mountain Grove Farmers Market.

The move of the Farmers Market to its new home will come as workers also work on the square and the bandstand. Plans include refinish work, stucco work, new concrete, wider sidewalks and more.

“This will help with the grassy area as (the square) will be torn up for a while,” said Mountain Grove City Administrator Tim Schook.

For Schook, the Farmers Market project has been a goal of his since coming to town in January 2017.

“It now allows them to stay dry and it allows the public to go somewhere to stay dry while they are shopping,” he said. “This is phase one.”

There are also plans to later construct two restrooms behind the structure.

The City of Mountain Grove purchased the property from the Pregnancy Resource Center in 2022 and started work in the area three months ago.

When the Farmers Market opens in the new location, the days of Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday will remain the same.

Vendors pulling trailers to sell goods like watermelons, for example, will be able to keep their vehicle parked on the street as access for shoppers when the new location opens.
