Nellie "Evelyn" (Wood) Sartor

Nellie “Evelyn” (Wood) Sartor, daughter of the late Carl Elmer and Ethel Evelyn (Wisdom) Wood, was born Sep. 8, 1928, in Pittsburg, Kan., and passed away Oct. 9, 2020, at Cox Health in Springfield. She was 92 years, 1 month and 1 day of age. When Evelyn was born, her brother, Joe, lovingly nicknamed her “Snooky.” The name stuck and she was known in her family by her nickname from then on.  Evelyn graduated high school in Pittsburg, Kan. She married Homer McClellan and one child, Marilyn, was born to this union. When Homer passed away, Evelyn married Andy Sartor and they made their home in Vanzant. Evelyn was a homemaker and greatly enjoyed buying new furniture and redecorating her home. In her spare time, she enjoyed camping with Andy throughout Missouri and Arkansas. She greatly loved spending time with family and friends.

Besides her parents and her first husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by 11 siblings, Dean, Carl, Alice, Alpha Mae, Lee, Lonzo, George, Juanita, Harold, Quincy and Joe; and a special niece, Nancy Jo Thomas. She is survived by her husband, of their home, Andy Sartor; her daughter, Marilyn Brooks and her husband, Brian; her granddaughter, Amber; two siblings, James and Ethel; step-children, Beverly Halliday and her husband, Mike; Gerald Sartor and his wife, Mary; Don Sartor and his wife, Beth; Missy McIntosh and her husband, Mark; numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a special great-great niece, DeeDee Bloomer; and other family, friends and neighbors who will dearly miss her. Funeral services for Evelyn Sartor were held Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2020, at 10 a.m. at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home with Josh Haney officiating. Song selections were “I’ll Fly Away” and “Amazing Grace” sung by Tammy Cudworth. Don Sartor, Gerald Sartor, Jim Melton, Jim Taylor, Dan Sartor and Norris Sloan served as pallbearers.  Charlie Byerley, Alfred Byerley, Robert, Keehner and Richard Keehner served as honorary pallbearers. Burial was in Lone Star Cemetery under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mountain Grove. Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Home Church in care of the funeral home.
