Mountain Grove Lady Panthers win Houston tournament title

The Mountain Grove Lady Panthers volleyball team is on a mid-season roll they hope will lead to some postseason success.

This past week, they won six of their seven matches, which concluded in them winning the Houston Volleyball Tournament.

In Houston, the Lady Panthers defeated Willow Springs, 25-15 and 27-26.

They also cruised past Mansfield, 25-14 and 25-11, as well as Bourbon, 25-11 and 25-8.

Two days earlier, the Lady Panthers traveled to Willow Springs and defeated the Lady Bears,  3-0.

On Sep. 28, Mountain Grove hosted Cabool and cruised to a 25-16, 25-12 and 25-20 victory over the Lady Bulldogs.

Against Ava on Sep. 23, Mountain Grove did just enough to leave with a three sets victory over the Lady Bears on the Lady Bears’ home court.

Their lone defeat came in a five set classic against West Plains.

After falling in the first set, 25-15, the Lady Panthers rallied to win sets two and three, 25-23 and 25-17.

Unfortunately, they could not complete the comeback as they lost set four, 25-17, and the fifth set, 15-13.

On the season, the Lady Panthers are currently 12-7.

Their next home match is Tuesday night against Clever at 5:30 p.m. followed by a Thursday night showdown with a 13-8 Winona team.

As for the Cabool Invitational Tournament held on Sep. 18, the Lady Panthers split with Licking, winning one and losing one. They won 25-8 and 25-10 while they also lost, 25-22 and 25-8.

They also lost to Houston in two sets.

Mountain Grove did manage to pick up wins over Plato and Willow Springs.

Against the Lady Eagles, Mountain Grove won 25-6 and 25-11.

In the showdown with the Lady Bears from Willow Springs, Mountain Grove cruised to a two set win, 25-20 and 25-17.
