Mountain Grove gets past rival Ava in districts

Panthers to play Buffalo for district title on Friday night

For the past four seasons, the Ava Bears enjoyed a lot of success against rival Mountain Grove. They won six straight games, outscoring the Panthers 176-63 during that margin.

So when Mountain Grove drew Ava for the Class 3, District 5 semifinals last Friday night, a much improved Panthers team was ready to turn the tables on the Bears.

This time a hungry Mountain Grove squad dominated Ava on the Bears’ home field and cruised to a 28-14 victory.

Mountain Grove led the battle of offenses with 191 yards passing and 94 on the ground for 285 total yards. The Bears had just 12 yards passing and 185 yards on the ground for 197 total yards of offense.
