Posted

The Mountain Grove FFA Chapter won the dairy cattle evaluation career development event at the 95th Missouri FFA Convention. There were 60 teams in the competition. In effect, the team won the state title in the contest.

The team members are Payton Harker, Zoey Criner, Landry Golden and Sam Peterson. Harker placed first, Criner placed ninth, Golden placed 56th and Peterson placed 100th out of 227 participants. The Mountain Grove FFA advisors are Trena Harker and Dawn Broos.

For Harker, the win was extra special as her grandfather won the contest in 1975. Her mother, Trena, is also a current Mountain Grove FFA Advisor.

Individuals in this event are scored based on how well they apply dairy cattle evaluation skills learned in the classroom. Each team evaluates six classes of four dairy cattle and presents oral reasons on their evaluations.

Sponsored by University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, this CDE is one way the FFA prepares student members for career success. CDEs engage student learning and make a real connection to lifetime goals.

The Missouri FFA has 26,716 members representing 356 chapters. The national organization has more than 850,000 members representing 8,995 chapters in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.

The FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
