Maynard G. Akerson

Maynard G. Akerson, 82, formerly of Mountain Grove, passed away on Aug. 2, 2020 at his home in Tehachapi, Calif. He was born on Sep. 11, 1937 in New Sweden, Maine to George and Lena Akerson.

A career military man, Maynard served in the United States Army for 26 years. During that time, he traveled the world and proudly represented his country in the Korean and Vietnam wars. When he retired from service, he held the distinguished rank of Sgt. Major and had earned a Bronze Star. In his golden years, Maynard enjoyed his time at home. He was a cattle rancher, an avid vegetable gardener and a tinkerer. Maynard could fix anything. He was a skilled welder and especially enjoyed working on car engines. He also took an interest in playing on computers. Maynard was preceded in passing by his son, Larry Doughty, and niece, Kim Desjardin. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Eunice Akerson; children, Richard Doughty, Janette Smith, Cyndee Roberson and Jeffry Doughty; siblings, Sheldon Akerson, Norma Lagasse and Ernest Akerson; sister-in-law, Patti Akerson and her daughter, Merry Bragg; nieces, Cheryl Lagasse, Lori Lagasse and Brenda Skidds; and nephews, Roger Akerson, Jimmy Akerson and Jerry Paul. He is also survived by grandchildren, Tracy, Holly, Scott, Bryan, Matt, Jon, Rebecca, Kathy, Shellee, Don, Jeffry, Johnathan, Isaac, Kasie, Troy, Jared and Dallas; and 21 great-grandchildren.

In honor of his admirable service to the United States, Maynard will be privately and respectfully laid to rest at Bakersfield National Cemetery in Arvin, Calif.
