Marjorie Louise “Marge” (Postlewait) McCarty

Posted

Marjorie Louise “Marge” (Postlewait) McCarty, daughter of the late Rev. John “JJ” Jefferson and Lucy Jane (Crewse) Postlewait, was born Oct. 19, 1937 in Huggins. After several years of declining health, she went to join her heavenly father on Sep. 29, 2021; she is now united with her family and friends that she has missed so much. Marge was 83 years, 11 months and 10 days of age. Marge was raised in the Number One Community before moving North of Mountain Grove, where she attended Mountain Grove High School. She was saved and baptized at an early age and attended First Day Freewill Baptist Church in Cabool, as long as her health permitted. She was the last one living of her large family of 15 children. Marge married Willard McCarty on June 4, 1955. One child, Karen, was born to this union. She held several jobs throughout her adulthood, however, she was employed by Brown Shoe Company for over 30 years, holding many titles while in Mountain Grove and Cabool factories. Upon closure of the shoe factories she worked a seasonal job managing the pro shop at Wedgewood Country Club until she was 74 years old. After leaving Wedgewood, she spent her time doing what she loved most, just being a great-grandma and spending time with her great- grandkids, which were her pride and joy! She enjoyed nothing more than attending their activities and being a part of their lives.

Besides her parents, Marge is preceded in death by her brothers, Wayne, Wade, Harold, James, Carl, Curtis, Clyde, Johnnie, Paul, Gene and Dean; and sisters, Bernice Peterson, Freda Edwards and infant sister, Sylvia Marie. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Linton, of Mountain Grove; two grandchildren, Brandon “B.J” Proctor and his wife, Rosanna, of Mountain Grove; and Ashley Duey and her husband, Ryan, of Ozark; seven great-grandchildren, Haylee, Jaxyn and Savannah Proctor, Ella and Eli Duey and Abby and Tucker Fry; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends that also called her MarMoo or Granny Marge. She will be missed by all of us! Memorial Services for Marjorie McCarty were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 4, 2021, in the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home of Mountain Grove. The Rev. Duane Crewse served as the officiant. Special songs were “I’ll Fly Away” and “Go Rest High On That Mountain.” Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery at a later date. Services were under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home of Mountain Grove.
